Get back on track and create long-term habits

Get on track after the holiday with these 5 simple steps.

The holidays are over and you are ready to feel good and get back on track after indulging in all the holiday treats.   Here are a few tips to get you started on the right track without overwhelming yourself and along the way making it a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix.

Avoid doing fad diets if you want to stop a cycle of losing weight and gaining weight. A fad diet might help you lose a few extra pounds fast, but they are usually difficult to maintain long-term.  Many times you end up gaining the weight back and may end up gaining more weight than what you initially started with.

Here are 5 things you can do to get back on track:

Clean out your kitchen

Ok, the holidays are over, and the first thing you should do is clean out the fridge and pantry get rid of all the leftovers and sweets. Avoid temptations in the house.

Plan out your meals

You want to incorporate foods that are rich in vitamins.  You want your plate to have protein, carb, and healthy fats.  Incorporate 3 meals a day and 2 snacks.  You don’t have to give up any food, you just have to make good choices, choices that will serve your goals.

Plan your meals and prepare.  I know it can be difficult and time-consuming, but sticking to your plan and being prepared will be key.    If you need help on how to meal prep check out this blog on Meal prep like a pro.

Start moving

Incorporate daily movement into your day, even if you are not ready to start a rigorous workout routine, start by walking.  You want to do something you will stick to and make it a habit.  When you create habits you won’t rely on motivation anymore. Motivation will always come and go, but habits stay with you.  If you are someone that likes a workout routine but don’t know where to begin, check out this blog Create your own workout program.
