How to enjoy the holidays and avoid the weight gain?

Change your mindset by stop telling yourself you will start January 1st. At that moment you are already setting yourself to weight gain.

During the holidays, the average weight gain is between 5 to 10 pounds but you can avoid it.

I believe the number one problem is that people throw the towel in too quickly and give up when fall enters. The reason being is your mindset.  Many will immediately say, I will start after the holidays. So you program your mind to not take care of yourself and wait until January 1st.  If you change your mindset today and start taking action today, you can avoid the holiday weight gain.

Here are my top 3 things you need to start today to avoid holiday weight gain:

Release the mindset of starting Jan. 1st

When you tell your mind that you will start after the holidays, you are already setting yourself up to gain weight. You will avoid taking care of yourself. Enjoying the treats in the office or family and friends gatherings will not be off the table, it’s about having a plan and staying consistent.

Change your mindset about your healthy lifestyle during the holidays.  Everyone is capable of enjoying the holidays and either continuing their weight loss journey or maintaining their weight. Many will use the last 3 months of the year to bulk or just maintain and pick up their weight loss at the beginning of the year, and that is perfectly ok.

I will say set a plan that will work for you and that you can stick with.

Don’t restrict yourself

One thing you want to avoid is restricting yourself because this will only cause you to overeat when you are around food.  In order to be in control of what you put in your body, you have to stay on track with your meals and be mindful.

One thing I always say is to pick and choose what you really want to enjoy, not because it’s in front of you, you have to have it.  You want to keep meals balanced and with all macronutrients.

Stay active

I know how hard it is to stay active during the holidays especially because the weather starts getting cold and rainy. I recommend committing at least 30 minutes of walking or any movement that you will enjoy.

You don’t have to start a new workout program to stay in shape you just have to stay consistent.

Make a plan and start today. When you stay focused on what you want and you work on it. You will achieve it. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to stay consistent.

Break the cycle of telling yourself I will start January 1st, when you can start today.  You can pick up a copy of my journal Change your mindset around food, and get yourself on the right foot.
