With the New Year, many are planning to start their health journey. Set your health goals with ease. I am here to give you some simple steps for you to get started and avoid feeling lost or overwhelmed. Starting a healthy journey can be easy if you take the necessary steps and do what is best for you, not what others suggest you should do.
Planning your 2023 fitness goals, here are easy steps to follow:
Set specific and achievable goals.
When setting goals you want to set small, specific, and attainable goals.
For example, instead of setting a general goal like “I want to lose weight,” set a specific goal like “I want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months.”
You also want to set short-term and long-term goals, because you want to make this a long-term successful journey, not a quick fix.
Identify your why
You have to know your why. Why is achieving your goals so important? Your goals have to be big enough to where your excuses become non-existent.
I know everyone wants to feel good in their jeans or that mini skirt but is wearing an outfit going to give you the commitment you need to reach your goals? When setting your why, think about your goals long term. What is going to make you show up for yourself every day?
Have a plan
Make a plan for how you will achieve your goals. This might include creating a workout routine, finding a gym or fitness classes to join, or hiring a personal trainer. Or simply start by walking everyday for 30 minutes.
Just know that as long as you add in some type of activity is good. You want to add something that you can commit to but not feel like a chore.
Let me be real, starting anything new will be difficult because you have to adjust to your new schedule, but it will all be worth it.
Track your progress
Tracking your progress is so important and I don’t mean weigh yourself everyday. That is probably the last thing I would recommend. The number one thing, I would recommend you do to track your progress would be to take photos.
Here are a few other ways you can track your progress is by keeping a fitness journal, using a fitness tracking app, or feeling how your clothing fits.
Build habits
Building habits take time, but when you want something so badly you make the commitment to achieve it. How to create habits, by showing up for yourself everyday, especially on the days you don’t feel like it.
Many say that they have not motivation, but in reality you can never rely on motivation, because motivation comes and goes. That is why; you have to focus on building habits.
Here is what I recommend you do, lay your clothes, shoes, and gym bag so that it’s ready to go. Schedule yourself into your day and stick with it. The desire to not show up will creep up more often than not, but you get dressed and walk out the door – or you workout at home.
Be patient and consistent
Changing your fitness habits and achieving your goals won’t happen overnight, so be patient and stick with your plan. Consistency is key, so make sure to make time for regular exercise and stick to your healthy eating habits.
Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process. By setting specific goals and making a plan to achieve them, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your fitness goals in the New Year.
